This drum is a miniature of a traditional mbunda (Lingala). Drums are played by hand, and sometimes with drumsticks. Different themes of drumming were created for various occasions, including coronation, funeral rites and hunting. Drums are also used for communication within and among the villages. They come in all different sizes, some of which are used as furniture in house. Drumming and rhythm are important symbols for African culture.
